Juneteenth is a holiday celebrated on June 19th to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the US. The holiday was first celebrated in Texas in 1980 and in 2021 was officially recognized as a federal holiday. On June 19, 1865 the last group of slaves was notified of the terms of 1862 Emancipation Proclamation.

Storrowton Village Museum recognizes the historic impact of this holiday by featuring scholars in our Juneteenth Speaker Series.
